Austin Cove Baptist College is a wonderful place for students to learn and staff to work. My role as Deputy of Student Services includes many things, but my most important job is to encourage the community of ACBC to be their absolute best and have the most enriching experience at school as possible.
In Student Services we are here to help students and parents in practical ways – upon entering the office you will be greeted by Mrs. Lidia Diamond, who can help you with your or your child’s enquires. This could be from handing out a band-aid to helping attain a SmartRider card for the bus and everything in between.
We are also charged with overseeing many events throughout the year – including Prize night, College Sunday, the Faction Carnival, assemblies and much more! There are exciting events every term that add value to student’s school experience.
We also support a wonderful group of students that form the ‘ACBC School Spirit Team’. At ACBC school spirit looks like teamwork. It involves events and activities that bring members of the school community together in some way. In addition to its positive impact on morale and performance, school spirit is fun. It celebrates successes and creates a sense of togetherness. The Spirit Team meets regularly and helps to promote these values. The students in the Spirit Team are self-titled ‘Agents of Kindness’ or A-OK.
I am also our local ambassador for Growth Mindset, which is a fundamental belief in one’s self that you can learn, leading to focused action and then growth. Growth Mindset a way of changing your thinking to move from 'I can't' to ‘I can't yet’. It is the ability to see challenges as a way to grow and improve; to be inspired by the success of others and not defeated by comparisons. It is also understanding that our brain is like a muscle, and it can grow and become smarter with effort. As a school community, we are dedicated to helping all students develop a higher Growth Mindset orientation.
We look forward to seeing you soon in Student Services
