Mathematics

The Western Australian curriculum in Mathematics is divided into three primary strands: Numbers and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability.

In Years 7 to 10, students will develop numeracy capabilities in each strand of the curriculum and explore the use of mathematical knowledge in daily life. Every effort is made to assist students with their numeracy skills and students are carefully placed in classes that cater to their ability, thus giving them every opportunity for success. Students who struggle with the concepts of mathematics are offered a Learning Enrichment program with modified curriculum content. These students are given support within the classroom setting so they can focus on their fundamentals before they move through the content of the curriculum at a moderate pace. In the extension classes, students are challenged to use their mathematical reasoning and apply the concepts that they have learned in class to more complex and challenging problems. Students are also given opportunities to participate in various mathematics competitions and enrichment programs.

In Years 11 and 12, students are offered a wide range of mathematics courses which include ATAR and General courses. Each course focuses on a different pathway which will meet various learning needs and lead to a range of career options.
