Curriculum

Curriculum Secondary

Secondary school is an exciting step for students. There are new challenges and new rewards.  Students undergo personal growth as they develop intellectually and are exposed to areas of academic, sporting and personal achievement. Students will begin to make decisions and choices regarding their own education and the direction that they wish to undertake in the future.

Austin Cove Baptist College aims to equip students for their future life, study and work. With that in mind, the College aims to provide a curriculum that is innovative, challenging and comprehensive. The choice of subjects and activities within the curriculum recognises that all students have varied skills and abilities as well as a wide variety of interests and ambitions for their future.

Year 7

Year 7 is the first year of Secondary School and as such provides an introduction to the routine and rigour of the senior school. There is a balance between the MESH Subjects (Mathematics, English, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences) as well as Health and Physical Education (HPE), The Arts, and Technologies. Students also study Applied Christian Education (ACE). Support is given by the Head of Year to every student so that they feel at ease developing new personal organisation and time management skills as well as new study habits.

Term One starts off with the Year 7 camp at the beginning of the term. This provides a relaxed and fun-filled opportunity for all students to get to know one another. There are also other opportunities during the year for social events provided just for Year 7 students.

Years 8, 9 and 10

Students continue to study a set curriculum of MESH, HPE, elective and ACE subjects. There is a variety of subjects that students are able to choose from including, but not limited to: Drama, Dance, Media Music, Visual Art (The Arts), Food Technology, Information Technology, Textiles, Woodwork (Technologies), Outdoor Education, Physical Recreation, Sport Studies (Health and Physical Education).

The Year 9’s will attend a camp, while the Year 10, students will leave campus for a week and complete Work Experience outside of the College. All year groups have regular socials that they attend.

Years 11 and 12

The College has put together a wide choice of courses for Year 11 and 12. The subjects allow students to choose from a University (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank - ATAR) pathway or a TAFE/traineeship/direct employment (General) pathway. Students are also able to choose from a range of Vocational Education and Training courses and gain Certificate II and III’s during school hours.

Detailed information on the courses we offer is provided by clicking a link below, on our subject selection forms on the Academic Platform page, or in our subject information booklets.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in Workplace Learning, a selective program which allows students to take part in workplace training either during or outside of school hours. This is an excellent foundation for prospective employment. The Year 11’s and 12’s both have a camp that they attend each year.
